Short title “Stop Online Piracy Act”
This bill created in October 2011, support by Detroit’s own Rep. John Conyers, is to protect the US citizen from foreign piracy and fraud.
Under Sec. 2 Savings and Severability Clause,
(a) Savings Clauses-
(1) “First Amendment – Nothing in this Act shall be construed to impose a prior restraint on free speech or the press protected un the 1st Amendment of the Constitution.
(b) Severability –
If any provision of this Act, or the application of the provision to any person or circumstance, is held to be unconstitutional, the other provisions or the application of the provision to other persons or circumstances shall not be affected thereby

Ironically, I am writing about a law that can shut me down.
Interesting enough, they state the 1st Amendment right in beginning and two entries down it states that if any part of this bill is considered unconstitutional it doesn’t define the rest of the bill. However, if this bill passes, the Supreme Court would be the venue to decide whether any part is unconstitutional. But they are a bit busy with the Obamacare and Immigration issue in this session, if they choose to review at all.
Buried on page 54, this bill talks about, exactly what I and many other bloggers do by reading and communicating from news article print or visual. So how do we protect ourselves from the tyranny of censorship? We will see…
