“Obama revs up oratory, reminding Autoworkers of bailout”
President Obama channeled his 2008 campaign persona on Tuesday, using an energetic speech before the united auto workers conference to remind Michigan on primary day that he helped save the auto industry with a controversial bailout even as mitt Romney was calling for the leading car companies to seek bankruptcy.
“just a few years ago, nearly one in five autoworkers were handed a pink slip,” Mr. Obama said in a full-bore address filled with applause lines for a core democratic constituency. “and as the financial crisis hit with its full fury, America faced a hard and once unimaginable reality: two of the big three — GM and Chrysler — were on the brink of failure.”
“Some politicians,” Mr. Obama said, “even said we should ‘let Detroit go bankrupt!’ ” the crowd booed, and Mr. Obama paused, dramatically, then added, “you remember that?”
There were more boos; the president was clearly enjoying himself.
The autoworkers and labor union leaders in the crowd were eating up every word — and their energy appeared to amp up Mr. Obama further. The president fed them one line after another, and several times detoured from his prepared remarks, as when he gave an endorsement for the new Chevy volt that included a promise to buy one — in five years’ time, of course.
Responding to Mr. Obama’s speech, Kirsten Kukowski, a spokeswoman for the republican national committee, countered in a statement that “president Obama is known for putting his re-election over keeping his promises to the American people.”
Ms. Kukowski called Tuesday’s speech “an insider deal for his union cronies who got billions in bailout money and are now backing Obama’s re-election campaign.”

Well Pres. Obama if the autoworkers don’t remember what you have done, the rest of us do.
This is amazing that Pres. Obama pays out billions to the 2 auto companies to secure union jobs and now is time to pay back… Sound like Barack is getting tips from the Mob..
