American Seating - a tool for the Obama Administration

WoodTV  Feb 01, 2012

“Biden: American Seating ‘never left’ “

Speaking to a full house Wednesday morning Vice President Joe Biden told the crowd assembled at
American Seating in Grand Rapids that there was only one way to bring back the American promise:  More Manufacturing Jobs.

I promise you, your kids are going to hear as much about insourcing as much as your generation heard about outsourcing”, said Biden.

He continued “If it were not for the fact that the govt decided that we promote mass transportation and busses, you wouldn’t have as many jobs here.”

American seating has benefited greatly from the 2009 federal stimulus package. More investment in mass transit translated into more seats made at American Seating.  The seating company said that in order to stay successful and to keep those jobs in Grand Rapids, it needs consistent federal funding, its current federal funding runs only through April.

Common Sense Review

Why out of all the factories in Grand Rapids would the VP Biden be speaking at American Seating?  It didn’t take much research to figure this one out.

First, employees of American Seating are a part of United Auto Workers Union 135.  So I would think it is a sound conclusion that those in charge of his speaking engagements would see this as a friendly crowd not to rile the VP.  I would think at the union meeting prior to the VP arrival, Union reps verbalized not to upset the VP.

The second reason is while the govt was picking winners and losers by distributing Stimulus funds (taxpayer dollars), I am sure companies were notified that they might be examples of the success.   So the news sound bites were “during the hard economic times where jobs were scarce, American Seating is going strong not just keeping worker but hiring more.”   I find it interesting how people can succeed on other people’s money.

Finally, according American Seating’s sustainability mission statement, “American Seating has been committed to environmental stewardship for years and has taken a proactive approach to minimizing our environmental impact. Interesting enough, American Seating is an active member of the West Michigan Sustainable Business Forum whose mission is to “promote a triple bottom-line sustainable business practices”.  When you think of Social Justice you think Obama Admin.

Sometime I feel there are no quality companies that are not manipulated by the govt through tax dollars.
