“Daniels Signs Law making Indiana Right-to-work state”

(Link not found)

Indiana’s controversial right-to-work became states law Wednesday.

The state Senate voted 28-22 to pass the labor union bill as thousands of protesters packed Statehouse hallways, shouting their disapproval.

Gov. Mitch Daniels signed the bill shortly thereafter without ceremony, making Indiana the 23nd states in the nation with such a law.  Under right-to-work laws, companies can no longer negotiate a contract with a union that requires non-members to pay fees for representation.  The House pearlier passed the measure 54-44.

In a statement from Daniel’s office, “Indiana will improve still further its recently earned reputation as one of America’s best places to do business, and we will see more jobs and opportunity for our young people and for all those looking for a better life.”

Indiana did adopt “right-to-work” in 1957 but repealed in 1965.  Opponents say it will lead to a downward spiral in wages and working conditions for all workers.

Common Sense Review

Good for Governor Daniels! No govt entity should tell any business that they must be a part of the union if they choose not to participate.

To the opponents who say wage and working conditions will go down.  In this day and age, most industries are multi regulated to prevent poor working conditions as well as the workers themselves can appeal to these oversight agencies.  Being free from Unions does take courage but the tyranny is over.
