Muskegon Heights school system mismanages their students future…

“Pay to be late for Muskegon Height Teachers:  District relies on state aid for funding”

Teachers in the Muskegon Heights school district were told they will not receive their regularly scheduled paycheck on Feb. 17.

Interim Superintendent Dave Sipka told 24 Hour News 8 the teachers will be paid on Feb 21.

The reason for the delay is because the district relies on state aid it receives monthly and that aid doesn’t arrive until Feb 21.  The paychecks will be turned around that same day.

The district is currently about $12 million in debt overall.  About $1.5 million of that is owed to the Michigan Public School Retirement System.

If that agency decides to garnish those important monthly state aid payments, the district “will not be able to meet payroll in April and May”.
The school district asked for an emergency manager after several years of big budget deficits.

A preliminary review by the state found “probable financial stress.”
Commons Sense Review

I for one don’t understand how an organization can get to this point.. A school is created to teach children which mean they need teachers.  Pay a sound wage is acceptable but everything else is wrong..  Now you are at the point where you can’t pay the teachers…  I feel bad for the children…

How is a child to look up to an authority figure to guide them when they can’t run a school system?

I see more stories coming out of this situation…  My question is where the parents are demanding a better system for their children…

I know we will be hearing from the MEA demanding their dues.
