“311 Hotline worth of cost?:  $1.3 million city call center would simplify service”

The city will spend $225,640 studying whether it’s worth spending $1/3 million to launch a centralized call center.

Grand Rapids will hire a consultant to evaluate the potential of a 311 system that would give people a single point of access to city services.

City Manager Greg Sundstrom said the system would improve call tracking and follow-up to0 increase customer satisfaction.  The City Commission this week approved spending $225,640 to have Atlanta-based Turnkey Solutions assess whether a 311 system would benefit Grand Rapids or save any money.

“We can base other decision on the data that we get” said 2nd ward Commissioner Rosalynn Bliss “this will be an assessment of all the different departments.”

Common Sense Review

Well if the City of Grand Rapids is questioning if the 311 system would save the city money, I would say no.  If you have to spend $1.3 million to SEE IF the system will work… You have wasted $1.3 million dollars…
